National Parks of Sri Lanka
National Parks or Sanctuaries are one of the many tourist
attractions in Sri Lanka. There are several national parks in Sri Lanka. Some
of them
- Yala,
- Wilpattu,
- kumana,
- Wasgomuwa,
- Bundala and Minneriya National Parks.
The animals in these
parks roam around in their natural habitats, famous for the Yala deer. It is
located in the Ampara District. Wilpattu is famous for its wild elephants and
tigers. It is located in the Puttalam District. Famous for any native and
migratory birds. It is also known as the "Bird Paradise". Wasgomuwa
National Park is located in the Matale District. Large herds of elephants can
be seen in the Minneriya National Park. It is 8889 hectares.
One hundred and sixty species of birds live in this national park. This has become a very popular destination among tourists. Both Giritale and Minneriya lakes are located on the border of this park. All these national parks are maintained by the Department of Wildlife. No one is allowed to cut down trees or hunt animals in these parks. National parks are areas where human beings and hunters can live without disturbing animals. National parks can be considered as our national treasure.
